Meet your host

Sarah-Elke Kraal

Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm a cartoonist, recovering general practice lawyer, and former Marilyn Monroe impersonator.

The Brief Case is my way of exploring complex substantive law developments through simple, funny and authentic conversations with only the most entertaining and inclusive experts in law.

It's a safe space to be fully ourselves; free from the pretences lawyers usually put up when we start talking about law stuff.

You can expect:

  • to hear two people talking;

  • updates across all areas of practice (including the ones you've always wanted to know more about but haven't had the chance to explore); and

  • a true knowledge sharing experience—wrapped in a little bit of absurdity, and a dash of insight into the monkey that runs my brain.

And because I'm never afraid to be the stupidest person in the room (in fact, I've pretty much made a career out of it) you'll most likely learn something by the end of each episode. I'll make sure of it!

I'm on a mission to disrupt how lawyers view and engage with their CPD—because it doesn't have to be a chore.

Don't believe me?

Here, hold my half-strength almond ice vanilla latte.

Meet the very many smart people (aka our Guests)

I'm fortunate enough to have forged amazing friendships and connections with some of the coolest and most engaging judges, barristers, and solicitors over the years working as a professional conference designer and lawyer—who all happen to be the go-to authorities in their respective areas of expertise and 100% non-boring. Even better, I'm delighted to say they're all repping their areas of law on the show!

Here they are in cartoon form (because I wanted an excuse to draw and also headshots are so 2021).
